Questo tipo di packaging ricorda molto i prodotti contraffatti o comunque prodotti illegalmente dai terzisti autorizzati anziché semplici copie di altre ditte, che comunque avrebbero riportato il loro logo.

The package (if we could describe it so) is minimal: simply a transparent nylon bag without any picture, logo or brand except for product code and size hand written probably by the seller. There is no evidence about the producer of this item.
This type of packaging lets us thinking about products forged or anyway made illegally by authorised subcontractors instead of general copies of other brands that probably should have printed their logo on the product.

Apriamo la giacca e troviamo due etichette attaccate tramite un unico filo di plastica al tiralampo di chiusura.

Opening the jacket we find two tags fixed by a single plastic string to the closure zip puller.


 

La prima etichetta riporta il logo della TAD Gear, ovvero tre frecce che divergono da un piccolo cerchio al centro di un triangolo, su uno sfondo verde con isoipse bianche, come una carta topografica; questa grafica è presente sul sito ufficiale della TAD. In basso troviamo una banda nera con il sito del produttore
Il vero indirizzo però non è con l'acronimo bensì con la dicitura estesa, cioè www.tripleaughtdesign.com; in ogni caso, anche digitando l'indirizzo presente sull'etichetta, un reindirizzamento automatico ci porta al sito ufficiale della TAD.
Il cartoncino utilizzato è piuttosto sottile e non sembra affatto quello originale.

The first tag shows the TAD Gear logo, that is three arrows that diverge from a small circle into a triangle, on a green background with white isohypse like a topographic map; this background image is the same of the official website of TAD. On the bottom we find a black stripe with the producer website address.
But the real website address is not with the acronym but with the whole name, www.tripleaughtdesign.com; anyway, if we write the address written on the tag we will be automatically redirected to the official website of TAD.
The carton used for this tag is thin so it doesn't seem the original one.


 

L'altra etichetta ha un aspetto molto migliore, con cartoncino spesso e stampa di qualità: più avanti ne riparleremo. Viene raffigurato uno squalo con la dicitura "Shark Skin Soft Shell", nome probabilmente scelto per via della ruvidezza già citata del tessuto.

The other tag has a better appearance, with a thick carton and good quality printing: later we will talk about it again. There is printed a shark with the writing "Shark Skin Soft Shell", probably referred to the coarse fabric.


 

L'altro lato dell'etichetta ci mostra i vari strati che compongono il tessuto e le sue proprietà. La membrana interna consente l'evaporazione del sudore e garantisce la conservazione del calore corporeo; la membrana esterna invece è idrorepellente e antivento. Si faccia attenzione al fatto che idrorepellente e impermeabile non sono la stessa cosa: idrorepellente significa che il tessuto è in grado di far scivolare via l'acqua anziché farla penetrare, ma solo se si parla di pioggia non intensa. Non esiste (per buona pace dei fan del Gore-Tex et similia) alcun tessuto che sia allo stesso tempo traspirante e impermeabile nel vero senso della parola: in caso di pioggia battente, l'acqua penetra.


The other side of this tag shows us the several layers that compose the fabric and its properties. The internal membrane allows the sweat evaporation and guarantees the preservation of body heat; the external layer is water repellent and wind stopper. Take attention to the fact that water repellent and water proof don't mean the same thing: repellent means that the water slips on the fabric surface instead of permeates it, but only if we don't talk about heavy rain. Ther is no fabric (neither Gore-Tex or similar) that can be transpiring and really waterproof at the same time: in case of heavy rain, the water permeates the fabric.


 

Ed ecco la Stealth Hoodie aperta. Possiamo notare la presenza di numerose tasche, 2 frontali, 1 ogni braccio con all'esterno un grosso riquadro in velcro per l'applicazione di patches e 1 sull'avambraccio sinistro.
La chiusura avviene mediante zip, con regolazione tramite coulisse nella parte bassa e linguette gommate su velcro ai polsi.
Nella foto vediamo che lo schienale è più lungo della parte frontale, sporgendo dal suo profilo: non è un effetto ottico dovuto ad un non allineato posizionamento a terra della giacca, più avanti vedremo il perché.

Here is the Stealth Hoodie opened. We can note that there are several pouches: 2 on the front, 1 pouch each arm with a large velcro area for patches and a small pouch on the left forearm.
There is a zip closure with an adjustment coulisse on the bottom edge and by rubber cuff tabs on wrists.
In this picture we see that the back is longer than the front and run out off its profile: it's not an optical effect, later we will see the reason why.
On the right bottom of the Stealth Hoodie (on the left in this picture) there is the logo.


 

Anello per appendere la Stealth Hoodie ed etichetta inequivocabile: è stato fabbricato in Cina. Un falso quindi, una copia. Oppure no?

Retro del colletto, dove vediamo la fascia che tiene chiuso il cappuccio, fissata con due piccoli riquadri di velcro.

Back of the collar, where we find the band that keeps closed the hood, fixed by two small velcro pacthes.


 

Retro del cappuccio; in basso le patch per chiuderlo una volta arrotolato mentre in alto troviamo due quadretti per attaccare gli occhi di gatto.

Ecco la tasca con spazio per patch all'esterno, presente su entrambe le maniche, ben più grande della tasca sull'avambraccio sinistro.

Here is the pouch with a velcro area externally for patches; it's quite bigger than the other on the left forearm and there is one of it each sleeve.


 

All'interno di queste tasche troviamo un piccolo riquadro di gomma con un intaglio a croce, più avanti vedremo a cosa serve.

Inside these pouches we find a small rubber square with a cross cutting in the middle, later we will see its function.


 

Sotto le ascelle troviamo una zip che consente una ampia apertura per areare in caso di utilizzo con temperature miti.

On the armpit there is a zip that allows a large opening in order to ventilate if we use this jacket in mild weather.


 

Interno della tasca pettorale sinistra. Capiente, foderata di un tessuto a rete nero e con una tasca verticale stretta e lunga adatta a coltelli pieghevoli, torce, penne, etc.
Anche qui è presente il piccolo quadrato di gomma con l'incisione a croce.
 
Inside the left chest pouch. It's capacious and lined with a black net fabric; there is a long and narrow pouch suitable for foldable knife, tactical lights, pens, etc.
Also into this pouch there is the small rubber square with the cross cutting.


 

In questa tasca troviamo anche un D-Ring in plastica cucito ad un nastro elasticizzato, utile per assicurare GPS, telefoni cellulari, chiavi, etc.

Into this pouch we find also a plastic D-Ring sewn to an elastic band, useful to attach GPS, mobile phones, keys, etc.


 

Sempre tasca pettorale sinistra: c'è anche un piccolo tirante elastico, più avanti vedremo a che serve.

...e il quadretto di gomma. Ok, ma a che serve? E' venuto il momento di scoprirlo.

Guardandolo attentamente, notiamo che è forato, come si può vedere dalla foto. Nelle tasche possiamo inserire un telefono cellulare, una radio, un lettore MP3 e attraverso il foro far passare l'auricolare fino all'orecchio, facendolo uscire dal colletto, in modo che esternamente allo Stealth Hoodie non ci siano fili vaganti che potrebbero impigliarsi.

Looking carefully at the square, we note that there is an hole as we can see in this picture. Into these pouches we can insert a mobile phone, a radio, a MP3 device and through the hole we can bring an hearphone to our ear by let it exit from the collar, so outside the Stealth Hoodie there is no wire that can be entangled.


 

Ok, vediamo a che serve la cordicella elastica che spunta all'interno della tasca pettorale.

Ok, let's see the function of the small elastic cord the come out from the chest pocket.


 

Osservando l'interno della Stealth Hoodie, notiamo il cordino elastico esce dalla parte superiore della tasca sinistra e sale su...

Observing the liner of the Stealth Hoodie we note that the elastic cord exits from the top side of the left pocket and goes up...


 

...prima percorrendo un passante, quindi uscendo all'esterno attraverso un occhiello metallico all'altezza del colletto per poi rientrare dopo pochi centimetri attraverso un'altro occhiello in metallo.
Alla fine la corda entra all'interno del bordo del cappuccio e compie lo stesso percorso sull'altro lato dello Stealth Hoodie fino alla tasca destra.

...first running through a long loop and then it goes externally by a metal buttonhole for a few centimeters near the collar before coming again internally by another metal buttonhole.
At the end the cord runs inside the edge of the hood and makes the same track on the other side of the Stealth Hoodie up to the right pouch.


 

La sezione del cordino che passa esternamente alla Stealth Hoodie è serrata su entrambi i lati da una clip coulisse. Il cordino serve quindi per regolare il cappuccio, e la clip coulisse fa in modo che la regolazione rimanga stabile.

The cord section outside the Stealth Hoodie is locked on both sides by a coulisse clip. The cord adjusts the hood size and the coulisse clip hold the adjustment.


 

Tutto l'interno dello Stealth Hoodie è rivestito in pile per una ottimale capacità di mantenimento del calore corporeo e maggior comfort al tatto.

All the internal side of the Stealth Hoodie is fleece-lined for an optimal body heat conservation and a better touch comfort.


 

Le cuciture sono ben rifinite e abbondanti, assolutamente non di scarsa qualità come ci hanno abituati le varie produzioni low cost. L'unico difetto delle cuciture interne, se così si può chiamare, è la mancanza di rifinitura finale in fase di post produzione per eliminare il filo in eccedenza nei punti dove è stato tagliato.
Ma non costituisce certamente un fattore penalizzante in termini di qualità e robustezza.

Seams are well made and generous, absolutely not poor quality as we used to be when we speak about low cost productions. The only fault of internal seams (we we can call it so) is the low care on the finishing process to remove the thread that exceeds from seams.
But certainly it's not a fault of quality or strength.


 

Una cordicella elastica di regolazione con due clip coulisse, una per lato, è presente anche nel bordo inferiore della Stealth Hoodie.

An adjustment elastic cord with two coulisse clips (once each side) is placed inside the bottom edge of the Stealth Hoodie.


 

Particolare della clip coulisse con pulsante di rilascio, a destra della foto. Di ottima fattura, è assicurata con un nastro di nylon alla cucitura laterale interna della giacca e dispone di anello che facilita lo scorrimento del cordino al suo interno.
In questa foto possiamo anche apprezzare la ottima qualità e precisione delle cuciture e la fitta trama del tessuto, visibile in modo più nitido nella foto seguente.

Particular of the coulisse clip with release button, on the right of this photo. It's very well made and it's attached with a nylon band to the side seam of the jacket. It has the ring to make easy the flow of the cord inside it.
In this picture we can also appreciate the good quality and accuracy of seams and the tightly-woven fabric, better visible in the next photo.


 

Anche le cerniere lampo sono di ottima qualità, le ormai famose YKK in colorazione adeguata a quello del tessuto.

Also zippers have a very good quality: famous YKK matching the fabric color.


 

Ecco un difetto evidente, anche se solo estetico. La cucitura del nastro tiralampo è imperfetta, il profilo non è regolare ma obliquo.
Ottima la scelta di adottare un nastro in nylon così da evitare rumori metallici indesiderati.

Here is a visible fault, also if only aesthetically. The seam of the zip puller is not well made, the profile is not regular but diagonal.
Very good the choice of a nylon tape in order to avoid unwanted metal noises.


 

Ecco il logo, cucito malamente. Nonostante ci sia il bordo scavato appositamente per accogliere la cucitura, il percorso del filo è totalmente irregolare, davvero mal cucito.
Il logo è di gomma, realizzato davvero bene. Anche qui l'indirizzo del sito del produttore è riportato con l'acronimo.
Stupisce notevolmente la qualità di realizzazione del logo... già nel suo complesso lo Stealth Hoodie oggetto di questa recensione risulta davvero ben fatto, assolutamente non la classica copia low cost, e anche per via del confezionamento "anonimo", viene da pensare che sia un oggetto realizzato dalla stessa fabbrica che produce per conto della TAD. Andiamo a vedere alcune foto dello Stealth Hoodie "originale" TAD Gear e confrontiamoli.

Here is the logo tab, badly sewn. Even if there is a hollowed edge to accomodate the seam the track of the thread is very irregular, really badly sewn.
The logo is made by rubber, very well manufactured. Also in this case the producer website address is shortly.
We are very surprised by the high quality of the logo... the Stealth Hoodie of this review has already satisfied us about its good quality, ansolutely it's not a bad low cost copy as usual.
Also for the "anonymous" packaging we suspect it could be an item produced by the same third manufacturer of TAD; let's go to see some photos of the "original" Stealth Hoodie to compare them.


 

In questa foto dell'originale TAD Stealth Hoodie presa dalla rete, vediamo che il logo è identico a quello della nostra recensioneanche se removibile, applicato su un riquadro in velcro. Da altre foto abbiamo però visto che in altre versioni sempre originali TAD il logo era cucito direttamente sul tessuto.
L'analisi di questo particolare ci lascia ancora con il lecito dubbio...

In this photo taken from the web of the original TAD Stealth Hoodie we see that the logo is just alike the one of our review, except for the fact that it's removable and attached to a velcro area; but from other photos of various versions of the original TAD we saw that the logo is sewed directly on the fabric.
The analysis of this particular still left us the reasonable doubt...


 

Sulla cucitura laterale interna sinistra del nostro Stealth Hoodie troviamo due etichette, una bianca con due codici e le precauzioni di lavaggio, l'altra color verde oliva con la bandiera statunitense "low vis", cioè tutta nera.

On the internal left side seam of our Stealth Hoodie we find two labels, the first white with two codes and washing instructions, and the other olive drab with the "low vis" U.S. flag, that is in black color.


 

In questa foto presa dalla rete di un originale Stealth Hoodie, vediamo le stesse identiche etichette, fatta eccezione per la scritta "Made in U.S.A." sotto la bandiera.

In questa foto dell'originale Stealth Hoodie presa dalla rete (si ringrazia il sito Military Morons) vediamo le due etichette quadrate di cui abbiamo parlato all'inizio della recensione.
L'etichetta della nostra recensione è agganciata alla cerniera lampo con un sottile filo di plastica mentre in questa foto vediamo un filo composto da sfere metalliche, simile alle collanine per le piastrine di riconoscimento in dotazione ai militari.
L'etichetta della nostra Stealth Hoodie ha entrambe le immagini di questa foto, una per lato: qui ne vediamo due, ma non sappiamo se sono due cartoncini distinti o due cartoncini identici che mostrano i due differenti lati.

In this picture of the original Stealth Hoodie taken from the web (thanks to the website Military Morons) we see the two square shaped tags we mentioned at the begin of this review. The tag of our review is attached to the zipper by a thin plastic wire but in this photo we see a metal ball-wire like military dog tag chains.
The tag of our Stealth Hoodie has both images of this photo, one each side: in this picture we see two tags, but we don't know if they are two different tags or two identical tags showing the two different sides.


 

Altra foto presa dalla rete, che mostra le etichette al colletto dello Stealth Hoodie originale. Differentemente dal nostro Hoodie qui troviamo l'etichetta nera "TAD Gear U.S.A." con il logo, mentre la taglia è riportata su una piccola etichetta sopra tutte le altre.
Ci stupiamo infine di vedere sull'ultima etichetta che anche l'originale... è fabbricato in Cina! O forse non siamo poi così stupiti?

Another photo taken from the web; it shows collar tags of the original Stealth Hoodie. Differently from our Hoodie here we find a black tag with the logo and the written "TAD Gear U.S.A.", while the size is written on a small tag over the others.
Finally we are very surprised to read on the last tag that also the original one... is made in China! Or we are not so surprised?

le linguette di regolazione dei polsi sono differenti! Quella originale (o almeno, uguale) TAD è la versione in basso della foto.

Dopo aver visto tutte queste foto del nostro Stealth Hoodie indossato all'interno, dove i colori reali sono falsati dalla fotocamera, vediamo alcune foto in gioco dove possiamo apprezzare il bellissimo colore reale, abbinato ad un set up leggero formato da un cinturone imbottito BlackWater e spallacci con pad entrambi della High Speed Gear.

After viewing all these photos of our Stealth Hoodie worn in close environment where colors are not real because of the camera, let's see some photos in action to better appreciate the beautiful color of this jacket. I used the Stealth Hoodie with a light set up composed by a BlackWater padded belt and High Speed Gear suspenders and shoulder pads.


 

Ho provato lo Stealth Hoodie per diversi mesi, da dicembre fino adesso, con temperature che andavano dai -10 °C fino ai +20 °C di fine marzo.
La vestibilità è ottima, la giacca resta aderente al corpo garantendo un ottimo comfort, ma senza limitare in nessun modo i movimenti, perfetto.
Non fatevi ingannare dalla leggerezza e dal poco spessore del capo: anche con temperature rigide come -10 °C, è stato sufficiente indossare sotto la Stealth Hoodie una maglia tecnica a maniche lunghe (nel mio caso, la Under Armor Cold Gear Turtle Mock) per non avvertire la benché minima sensazione di freddo.
Viceversa con temperature sopra i 15 °C, anche indossando semplicemente una t-shirt traspirante (nel mio caso la 5.11 Tactical Muscle Mapping) la Hoodie tiene molto caldo e anche aprendo le lampo ascellari si suda molto.

I tried the Stealth Hoodie during several months, from december up to now, with temperatures between -10 °C up to +20 °C at the end of March.
It has a very good wearability, the jacket is close fitting and provides a good comfort without restricting movements, perfect.
Don't be taken by the lightness and by the poor thickness of the garment: also with low temperatures like -10 °C it was enough to wear under the Stealth Hoodie a technical long sleeve undershirt (in this case an Under Armor Cold Gear Turtle Smock) to never feel cold.
Otherwise with temperature over +15 °C also wearing a breathable t-shirt (in this case a 5.11 Tactical Muscle Mapping) the Hoodie keeps you very warm and you sweat a lot also opening armpit zippers.



Conclusioni
Non ho davvero idea se questo Stealth Hoodie sia una semplice copia realizzata da chissà quale sconosciuta fabbrica cinese oppure se è un Hoodie prodotta da un terzista autorizzato TAD, quindi sempre una sconosciuta fabbrica cinese.
Non lo so e forse neanche è chissà quanto importante saperlo: anzi, posso affermare con assoluta certezza che nessuna persona che abbia acquistato questo capo si torturerà la mente cercando di capirlo, sapendo che ha speso solo 50 dollari contro gli oltre 300 dell'originale TAD.

Conclusions
I don't really have idea if this Stealth Hoodie is simply a copy produced by an unknown company in China or it's a Hoodie produced by an authorized subcontractor of TAD, therefore always an unknown company in China.
I don't know that and perhaps it's not very important to know that: rather I can say for sure that nobody  has buyed this jacket will torture his mind to establish if it's original or not, since he payed only 50 dollars for it instead of over 300 dollars for the original TAD.
