DeepFire M4 CQB - Silver series
Same M4, different manufacturer: Deep Fire enters into the airsoft scenery.
La Deep Fire è un'azienda di Hong Kong già presente da tempo nel mercato del soft air come produttore di accessori e ricambi, e recentemente anche di AEG complete proponendone 3 diverse linee.
In ordine crescente di costo e qualità, ci sono le linee Silver, Gold e Professional.
A dimostrazione del fatto che gli intenti di questa azienda siano quelli di offrire prodotti a basso costo mantenendo al contempo un buon livello di qualità, anche le linee più economiche son fulll metal. La serie Gold ha inoltre il set di ingranaggi in titanio, metallo leggero e molto resistente; la serie Professional oltre agli ingranaggi in titanio è equipaggiata con un nuovi tipo di hop up che speriamo in futuro di poter visionare di persona.
L'AEG che andremo a recensire è un M4 CQB con astine paracanna; fa parte della serie Silver, la più economica.
Deep Fire is a company based in Hong Kong that is already present into the airsoft market as a parts and accessories producer, but recently also as a producer of complete AEGs, with 3 different lines: Silver, Gold and Professional, sorted by increasing quality and prices.
The producer offers good quality products for low prices, as a matter of fact also economy series are full metal constructed. Gold series AEGs have titanium gear set instead of steel one, a light and though metal; Professional series AEGs other than titanium gear set have also new type of hop up chamber we hope to review in the future.
Model we're going to review is a M4 CQB with handguards; it's a Silver series rifle, the cheaper.
La confezione si presenta molto elegante e professionale, non certo da prodotto low cost. Una larga banda rossa su sfondo nero con al suo interno la marca scritta in color oro.
Si nota come la confezione sia, marca a parte, "anonima", ovvero non mostri il modello in essa contenuto. A precisazione di questo dato c'è una etichetta adesiva in alto a destra che lo riporta, in questo caso "M4 CQB".
Così facendo la Deep Fire ha una sola scatola per tutte le AEG di quelle dimensioni, ottimizzando i costi del packaging.
The package is very good looking and professional, not like low cost products box. A large red stripe on a black background with a gold writing.
We can see that the package is "anonymous" except for the brand: there is no evidence of the model inside it. To specify the exact model inot the box there is a label on the top right with the name, M4 CQB in our case.
Like that Deep Fire can use the same package for all AEGs having approximately equal lenght, reducing packaging costs.

Caricatore maggiorato da 300bb, di uno strano color grigio chiaro, e sulla destra il manuale d'uso con le solite raccomandazioni sulla sicurezza nell'uso delle AEG e sulla pulizia della canna.
There is a hi-cap magazine of 300bb in a strange light grey color. On the right the black instruction manual with the usual safety warnings for the use and tricks to clean the inner barrel.
Nella confezione è incluso un connettore Deans (a "T") femmina con due piccoli pezzetti di guaina termorestringente.
In the package there is a female Deans connector ("T" shaped) enclosed with two small pieces of sheath.
Naturalmente, l'AEG. A prima vista sembra molto ben fatta, i particolari ben definiti e di un gradevole color nero opaco.
Obviously, the AEG. At first sight it seems very well made, with well-defined particular and good lookink black matt color.
Le serigrafie al laser sono di buona qualità, il logo con l'ascia bipenne è anche carino. Anche la fantomatica azienda "Calydon Arms" con sede a Salem nello stato della Virginia come nome non è male... ma a fianco del calibro al posto di "multi" sarebbe stato meglio scrivere un più realistico "5.56".
Laser screen printings are of good quality, the double-blade ax logo is good looking. Also the imaginary "Calydon Arms" located in Salem, Virginia sounds good... but the writing "multi" near the caliber should be replaced with a more realistic "5.56".
In questa foto possiamo apprezzare il bel colore nero opaco dei gusci, molto realistico. Spiccano molto le parti in quello strano grigio chiaro, ovvero il caricatore, la finestra dell'otturatore, il pulsante di sgancio del caricatore e il para grilletto.
In this photo we can appreciate the good looking black matt color of the body, very realistic. Parts in light grey color stand out from the body: magazine, magazine release button, bolt cover and the trigger guard.
Particolare del frontale. Le plastiche delle guancette paramano sono opache e ruvide al tatto, davvero ben fatte e realistiche. Impugnando l'M4 CQB Deep Fire, notiamo subito la sua ottima solidità strutturale, nessun gioco fra le parti, difetto che molto spesso affligge il punto di aggancio fra il frontale e i gusci dei Colt e similari.
Particular of the front. Handguards plastics are matt and rough, really very well made and realistics.Handling the Deep Fire M4 CQB we appreciate immediately its good structural toughness; there is no movements between front and body, fault that very often Colt and similar have.
Impugnatura, anche qui plastica opaca e ruvida. L'impugnatura replica un modello prodotto dalla Tango Down.
Pistol grip, also in this case rough and matt plastic. This grip is a replica of a Tango Down model.
Aggancio del tubo del calcio. La piastrina di collegamento non ha l'anello per l'aggancio della cinghia di trasporto, questa è sicuramente una nota negativa.
Attachment of the stock tube. The rear plate doesn't have the ring to hook up the sling; this is really a fault.
La pala del calcio è di tipo Crane, ovvero con due cavità tubolari ai lati. Nei fucili real-steel servono per stipare batterie per le torce o altro, nelle nostre repliche, come in questo caso, sono molto utili per alloggiare le batterie necessarie al funzionamento dell'AEG.
Anche in questo caso le plastiche sono ruvide e opache, davvero belle e realistiche. Il tubo offre 4 posizioni di regolazione della lunghezza totale del calcio.
Tirando la leva per togliere la pala dal tubo, questa resta bloccata, come si vede dalla foto. Strano, la molla del perno dovrebbe farla ritornare al suo posto...
The buttstock is a Crane type, so it has two empty tubes on its sides. In real-steel rifles they're useful to hold batteries for tactical light or other items, for our replicas, as in this case, they're very useful to hold the batterythat provides power to the AEG.
Also this part is made in rough and matt plastic, very good looking and realistic. The tube has 4 positions to set the total length of the stock.
Pulling the lever to take off the buttstock from the tube, the lever stay up as we can see in this photo. It's strange, normally the pin spring let it come back to the correct position...
Ecco il perché: il perno è sceso troppo ed è uscito dalla sua sede, infatti nella foto non lo vediamo all'interno della sua cavità.
Basta riallinearlo e farlo tornare in sede, quindi avvitare un po' il dado cilindrico sotto la leva per ridurre la corsa del perno ed evitare il ripetersi del problema.
That's why: the pin is gone down too much exiting from its seating; as a matter of fact in the picture we can't see it inside the hole.
It's enough to align the pin and to screw a little bit the cylindrical bolt under the lever to avoid the problem next times.

...e hanno un connettore Deans maschio, ecco perché nella confezione è incluso il connettore femmina, per montarlo sulla batteria che andremo ad utilizzare su questa AEG.
...and it has a male Deans connector, that's why into the package there is a female connector, to install it on the battery we want to use on this AEG.
Dal momento che ho solo batterie con connettore Tamiya piccolo, sostituisco il Deans con un Tamiya maschio.
Since I have only batteries with small Tamiya connector, I have to replace Deans connector with a male Tamiya.
Basta agganciare i connettori e inserire la batteria in uno dei tubi (o in entrambi). - Now simply plug connectors and isnert battery into one tube (or into both).
Ok, è il momento di vedere come si smonta e con l'occasione fare una analisi della parte interna e della meccanica.
Il frontale si sgancia a scorrimento, quindi sganciamo il perno anteriore che si trova proprio sotto l'attacco del frontale ai gusci.
Il perno non viene via del tutto, ma resta ancorato ai gusci tramite un fermo.
Ok, let's see how to disassemble the AEG and let's take a look of the inside and its mechanism.
The front come out by sliding so first we have to take out the pin just under the attachment of the front to the body.
The pin doesn't come out totally, but it stay attached to the body by a small lock.
Sganciato il perno, far scorrere il frontale. - Unlocked the pin, slide the front.
Estrarre il gruppo hop-up / canna interna dal frontale - Take out hop-up / inner barrel from the front.
Ecco l'hop-up, in metallo e monoblocco. Notiamo subito che nell'igranaggio in alto manca lo stop, ovvero il fine corsa. In questo modo non ci sono un massimo e un minimo preimpostati, ma girando la rotella si arriva al massimo della pressione del gommino dell'hop-up e continuando a girarla riduciamo la pressione fino al minimo per poi riaumentarla di nuovo e così via... senza fine. Possiamo ovviare autonomamente semplicemente regolando al massimo l'hop up e tappando il primi foro libero in basso dell'ingranaggio in alto, in modo che i denti dell'ingranaggio centrale non facciano presa.
Here is the one piece hop-up, metal made.We see immediately that the upper gear doesn't have the stop, the run end. So there aren't fixed minimum and maximum regulations, but rotating the gear we arrive to the maximum pressure of the hop-up rubber and by continue rotating we decrease the pressure until the minimum, then again increase pressure and so and so... without ending. We can solve this little problem simply regulating the hop-up pressure to the maximum and then cover the first free hole on the bottom of the upper gear, so that cogs of middle gear can't hook the upper gear.
Interno della parte superiore dei gusci. Normalmente nelle repliche low cost è all'interno che si scoprono sbavature evidenti di lavorazione, qui invece è tutto molto ben fatto.
Inside of the upper receiver. Usually in low cost replicas it's the inside where we find a greater number of work burrings , but here it's all very well made.
La canna interna inottone non ha il solito colore dorato scuro... è opaca e ruvida, e molto leggera. Sembra essere stata trattata con non so quale sostanza che l'ha resa di colore giallo opaco.
The brass inner barrel doesn't have the usual dark gold color... it's matt and rough, very light. It seems to be probably processed with a substance I don't know that has made it matt yellow color.
Regolo l'hop-up al massimo e guardo all'interno della canna, per vedere come e quanto agisce... e noto con stupore che al posto del solito "bozzetto" sporgente vedo 3 piccoli dentini di gomma che sporgono. Mai vista una cosa simile...
I set the hop-up at its maximum then I take a look into the barrel, to see how and how much the hop-up works... and I note with surprise that instead of the usual little bump there are 3 small rubber teeth. I've never seen something like that...
L'hop-up presenta il nome della Deep Fire in rilievo. - The hop-up shows the embossed name of Deep Fire.
Tolgo la canna dall'hop-up... ma il gommino resta dentro a causa dell'anello di ottone, quindi lo tolgo con un paio di pinze a becco lungo.
L'anello che centra la canna all'interno dell'hop up è saldamente incastrato, ho dovuto forzare molto per toglierlo.
Se non lo togliete, vi sarà impossibile reinserire la canna con il gommino all'interno dell'hop-up !
I take out the barrel form the hop-up... but the hop-up rubber is still inside because of the brass ring, so I take it out with long pliers.
The ring that center the barrel inside the hop-up is firmly locked inside, I had to force to take it out.
If you don't remove it, you can't insert the barrel with hop-up rubber inside the chamber !

Here is the pressor. The rubber is very soft, too soft probably, and the pressor is cutted very badly, as we can see in this picture.
Ricavo un altro pressore da un pezzetto di cavo elettrico privato dell'anima metallica, la gomma più dura migliorerà la pressione sul gommino.
Rimonto tutto e sigillo con del nastro di teflon per evitare perdite d'aria.
I made another pressor by cutting a little piece of a power cable without the metal inside it, the harder rubber makes a better pressure on the hop-up rubber.
I reassemble the hop-up and insert the barrel, then I seal with teflon tape to avoid air loss.
Particolare del cilindro in ottone. Il cilindro è forato nella parte posteriore, e le dimensioni del foro sono generose come si addice ad AEG con canne così corte per compensare l'aria in eccesso. Bene.
Particular of the brass cylinder. It has an hole on the rear, and the dimensions of the hole are generous as needed for an AEG with a short barrel like this to balance the air that exceeds. Good.
Ecco il Gear Box. I gusci non sembrano di zamak, una lega metallica non molto resistente.

Le boccole su cui girano gli alberi degli ingranaggi sono in metallo e non in debole plastica che col tempo si deforma causando danni ai denti degli ingranaggi.
Bushings where gear shafts run into are metal made; plastic bushings not long after deform causing damages to gear cogs.
Aperto il Gear Box, estraggo la molla. E' molto lunga ed elastica, a passo variabile, come si vede dalla minor distanza fra le spirali al centro e vicino al guidamolla.
Open the Gear Box, I take out the spring. It's very long and elastic, variable pitch as we can see from the less space between spirals in the middle and near the spring guide.
Fra la molla e i guidamolla c'è uno spessore in plastica. - Between the spring and the spring guide there is a plastic ring.
Anche gli ingranaggi hanno il nome della Deep Fire inciso. Normalmente le repliche low cost utilizzano ingranaggi anonimi di provenienza sconosciuta oppure i diffusi ingranaggi XYZ. La Deep Fire, come detto nella prefazione, si pone come azienda che produce sì repliche a basso costo, ma non per questo a discapito della qualità, e il fatto di montare ingranaggi marchiati con il proprio nome ne è ulteriore dimostrazione.
Gli ingranaggi sono in metallo di ottima qualità, visibilmente molto resistenti.
Also gears have the name Deep Fire engraved. Usually low cost replicas have anonymous gears of unknown producer or popular XYZ gears.
Deep Fire, as we write at the beginning of this review, wants to offer replicas for low prices but with a good quality level; using gears with its name engraved it's another demonstration of these intentions.
Gears are made of a good quality metal, visibly very resistant.
I cavi elettrici sono rivestiti in gomma siliconica, morbida e resistente che li rende più flessibili.
Power cables are covered by silicone rubber, soft and resistant that make them more flexibles.
Visione completa della meccanica. E' tutto molto pulito, non ci sono tracce di limatura e grasso lubrificante in eccesso come nella maggior parte delle repliche low cost.
View of the whole gear set. It's all very net, there are no traces of iron filings or a lot of grease as in most of low cost replicas.

Here is the piston made of polymer, rough and resistant. The writing Deep Fire is embossed over the rail. Only the first tooth is made of metal.
La testa pistone è in alluminio e piena, senza fori. Scelta molto discutibile.
Non posso giudicare il motorino elettrico in quanto la replica fornitaci ne era sprovvista. Per il test ho usato un motorino low cost di marca Big Dragon.
The piston head is made of aluminium and plain, without holes. Not a very good choice.
I can't talk about the electric motor because the replica we received doesn't have it. For the test I used a low cost model, produced by Big Dragon.
E adesso la parola al campo.
Come già detto, un grosso difetto è l'assenza dell'anello per agganciare la cinghia di trasporto, siamo costretti a tenere l'AEG sempre impugnata.
Fortunatamente l'impugnatura replica Tango Down è molto comoda, anche indossando i guanti la presa è ottima.
Le dimensioni contenute dell'AEG lo rendono molto maneggevole e il brandeggio anche in ambienti complicati come il fitto di una boscaglia è agevole; il peso ridotto ne rende facile il trasporto e andare in puntamento.
L'M4 CQB Deep Fire è solido e non ha scricchiolii di nessun genere, impugnandolo si ha veramente una bella sensazione di tenere in mano una AEG compatta e resistente.
Con una batteria LiPo 7.4v la raffica è accettabile, allegra ma non velocissima. Inizio a giocare utlizzando il caricatore fornito di serie, che dopo la prima raffica smette di erogare pallini; so di aver caricato completamente la molla, quindi capisco che c'è un altro tipo di problema.
Cerco di premere il pulsante di sgancio caricatore, ma non ci riesco... devo muovere un po' il caricatore per riuscire a sganciarlo e toglierlo dal lower receiver, segno di un errato allineamento del caricatore nella sede e rispetto alla "T" hop-up.
La molla del caricatore è sottodimensionata, insufficiente per il caricatore seppur di capienza media (300bb); la carica si esaurisce dopo pochi bb e occorre mettere in tensione la molla più e più volte. Sconfortante.
Provo ad inserire un caricatore P-Mag replica Magpul, non si riesce ad inserire a causa della sua forma.
Tento quindi con un Themold G&G, ma lo spessore di questo tipo di caricatore impedisce di inserirlo bene nel lower receiver dell' M4 CQB Deep Fire; forzandolo un po' però riesce a salire completamente e i pallini escono regolari senza inceppamenti.
Sostituisco il caricatore con un altro G&G, stavolta uno standard Stanag in metallo, che si inserisce senza problemi agganciandosi facilmente al dente di fermo.
A questo punto capisco che il rimedio è utilizzare classici caricatori in metallo e di qualità.
Il tiro è bello teso, con una rosata ridotta... buon risultato per una AEG con una canna così corta. La gittata è buona, non eccelsa ma sicuramente apprezzabile.
Dopo un'intera mattinata di gioco posso tranquillamente dire che l' M4 CQB Deep Fire si è comportato in modo egregio, non facendomi rimpiangere AEG di marche ben più blasonate e costose che fanno parte del mio arsenale.
Le sue dimensioni e il peso hanno contribuito notevolmente alla sensazione di comodità dopo una mattinata, a parte il difetto dell'assenza dell'anello per la cinghia, rimediabile installando una piastrina con anello integrato.
L' M4 CQB è solido, e impugnarlo regala davvero soddisfazione... non l'effetto "giocattolo" di alcune repliche poco curate.
Anche a livello meccanico il suo funzionamento è sempre stato impeccabile, a patto di utilizzare caricatori adeguati, come già ampiamente trattato.
In definitiva è un acquisto da consigliare, in virtù di un prezzo interessante per la qualità offerta: parliamo di circa 200 euro di questo modello fino ad arrivare ai 260 euro per i modelli con kit MOE su licenza Magpul, sempre della linea Silver.
And now let's try it on the field.
As already written, a big fault is the lack of the ring for tactical sling, so we have to hold the AEG in our hands.
Fortunately the Tango Down replica pistol grip is really comfortable, I have a good grip also wearing gloves.
Small dimensions of this AEG make it very easy to handle also if we are in complicated environment like deep woods; the low weight let us an easy transport and to go on aiming.
The Deep Fire M4 CQB is strong and it doesn't squeak; handling it we have a good sensation, we feel to handle a compact and resistant AEG.
With a 7.4v LiPo battery the rate of fire is appreciable, smart but not very fast. I started to play using the magazine included in the package, but after the first burst pellets didn't come out from the muzzle. I loaded totally the magazine spring, so I understood that there was another problem.
I tried to take out the magazine by pushing the release button, but I wasn't able to do that... I had to move a little bit the magazine to release it, it's a sign of a wrong alignment of the magazine into the lower receiver and respect to the hop-up "T".
The magazine spring is too small and not enough for the magazine despite of its poor storage capacity (300bbs); the charge ends after a few bbs and it takes to load the spring more times. Disappointing.
I tried to use a Magpul P-Mag replica, but it's impossible to insert it correctly into the lower receiver because of its shape.
So I take a G&G Thermold magazine, but the thickness of this type of magazine didn't allow me to insert it correctly into the lower receiver; I had to force a little to fix it into the receiver, so we can fire out bbs without problems.
I replaced the Thermold with a standard Stanag metal magazine, and I could inserti it without problems, it went immediately locked into the lower receiver.
Ok, I understood that I have to use good quality classic metal magazines.
The trajectory of pellets is straight and bbs are concentrated in a small area on the target; it's a good result for an AEG with a short barrel like this.
The range is good... not so far but certainly appreciable.
After the entire morning of activity I can say for sure that Deep Fire M4 CQB works very well, I didn't miss other famous and expensives brands AEGs of my armory.
Its compact dimensions and light weight give me a feel of an easy handling after an entire morning, except for the lack of ring to hook up the tactical sling.
We can solve this problem by replacing the rear plate with a plate that has a sling ring.
The M4 CQB is tough and to handle it give us a real satisfaction... not the "toy effect" of some low quality replicas.
Also talking about mechanic the AEG worked always without problems, perfectly. We just need to use good quality magazines, as already written.
In conclusion it's a good buy, thanks also to the low price compared to its quality: you have to pay 200 dollars for this model and 260 dollars for Silver series models equipped with MOE kit under Magpul license.
