Esaminiamo il DOAV System, vest della BlackHawk parzialmente modulare adatto a operazioni di lunga durata.

Il DOAV (Delta Operator Assault Vest) System è un tactical vest prodotto inizialmente dalla Eagle diversi anni or sono e successivamente, ottenendo maggior notorietà e diffusione, replicato dalla Black Hawk, precursore del moderno e più conosciuto DOAV Strike, base vest con sistema MOLLE per le tasche.
Come dice il nome stesso, è studiato per gli operatori della Delta Force e impiegato per le pattuglie a medio/lungo raggio essendo dotato di una ragguardevole capacità di carico.
Si tratta di un gibernaggio completo sotto ogni punto di vista, capace di caricare numerosi caricatori di diversi calibri e con la possibilità di stipare il materiale per il bivacco in due zainetti posteriori rimovibili, eliminando di fatto la necessità di uno zaino.

The DOAV (Delta Operator Assault vest) System is a tactical vest originally made by Eagle Industries several years ago and later produced by BlackHawk with more awareness; it’s the precursor of modern and best-known DOAV Strike, a modular base vest.
It was designed for Delta Force’s operators, used for medium and long range patrol as it has a remarkable capacity.
The DOAV System is a complete set up as it can carry a lot of magazine of different calibers and with his two removable back packs you can cram all the necessary for bivouac, eliminating the need for a separate backpack.






Struttura

La base del vest è interamente in rete di nylon a maglie romboidali, quindi molto resistente ma allo stesso tempo traspirante e morbido, adattandosi facilmente alla corporatura dell'operatore che lo indossa.
Il vest è composto da tre parti, lo schienale più due parti frontali, quindi interamente regolabile; purtroppo anche stretto al massimo non si adatta a corporature esili e ad altezze inferiori a 175 cm, pena l'impossibilità di piegarsi sulle ginocchia.
Il vest nella parte terminale bassa risulta molto largo e il cinturone è quindi una scelta obbligata per evitare che il tattico si muova fastidiosamente.
Lo schienale si aggancia alle due parti frontali e si regola in altezza tramite velcro e due cinghie regolabili per ogni spalla e con tre cinghie regolabili per parte sui fianchi; le due parti frontali si chiudono con zip e due fastex.
Sono presenti gli agganci per il cinturone, la maniglia per l'evacuazione dell'operatore e il pad di gomma su entrambe le spalle per appoggiare il calcio del fucile.

Structure
The structure of the vest is entirely made in diamond-meshed nylon net , strong and breathable at the same time, easily adapting to the operator’s chest.
It’s composed by three parts: two fronts and the back plate, fully adjustable but unfortunately not suitable for slim body and heights below 175cm, who cannot bend knees when fitting the vest.
The DOAV at the low end is very large and it need to wear a belt to avoid uncomfortably moves of the vest.
Back plate is attached to the front parts with Velcro and two adjustor buckles each shoulder, with height adjustment; on the waist there are three adjustor buckles each side to secure and adjust the back plate to the front part.
Frontal closure is with zip and two fastex buckles.
The DOAV has belt hooks, carry handle to remove operator and rubber pads on each shoulder to support the rifle butt stock.



Tasche
Il vest è quasi totalmente simmetrico, cioè i due pannelli anteriori sono identici nella composizione.
Nella parte interna del pannello è presente una tasca interna per documenti o mappe, chiusa tramite velcro.
Le differenze stanno nella parte alta dei pannelli frontali, dei quali il destro presenta una tasca porta fumogeni e una piccola tasca utility per medicamenti, mentre il sinistro due tasche per fumogeni; tutte le tasche hanno la chiusura a velcro.

Pouches
The vest is almost symmetrical, it means that the two front parts have the same pouches. Each part has a internal pocket for document, maps and other, closed with velcro.
The only difference between the two parts is on the top: the right panel has a smoke grenade pouch and a small medic/utility pouch, while the left has two smoke grenade pouches.
All pocket have velcro closure.




Nella parte bassa anteriore, ogni pannello ha due tasche portacaricatori che contengono tre caricatori Colt o due caricatori AK cadauna, per un ragguardevole carico totale di 12 caricatori Colt oppure 8 caricatori AK.
Cucite sul lato interno delle due tasche centrali, ci sono due piccole tasche adatte a contenere coltelli multiuso, piccole torce o altro di piccole dimensioni.
Le tasche portacaricatori hanno al loro interno un separatore che serve a tener fermi i due caricatori Colt rimasti all'interno della tasca, evitando che con il movimento sbattano fra di loro provocando fastidiosi rumori, inopportuni durante operazioni in stealth.
Una volta inseriti i caricatori, una fascetta chiusa da un piccolo fastex blocca i caricatori, impedendone il movimento.
Ovviamente il separatore non è utilizzabile con i caricatori AK, anche perché inutile dato che estraendo un caricatore ne resta solo un altro all'interno della tasca.
Le patelle di chiusura non sono lineari e piatte, ma hanno nella loro parte superiore una forma a cappuccio che chiude completamente l'apertura delle tasche; sistema a velcro.

In the lower the front panel has two pouches each containing 3 Colt magazines or 2 AK magazines, with a remarkable total capability of 12 Colt magazines or 8 AK magazines.
Attached on the central magazines pouches, there are two small pockets designed to hold multi-tool knife, flashlights, etc.
All magazines pouches have a internal divider that retain the two left magazines when we extract the third from the pouch to use it.
It prevents movement of magazines inside the pouch that causes annoying noises, inappropriate during stealth operations.
Once you put inside the pouch the magazines, you close a tape with a small fastex buckle and nothing can move.
Obviously, the divider can’t be used with AK magazines, even is unnecessary because pulling out a magazine only one remain into the pouch.
Closure flaps are not linear and flat, but they have a top-shaped hood flap that close completely the opening of pouch, with velcro system.






Sui lati troviamo le capienti tasche utility, nelle quali possiamo stipare numerosi oggetti.
Al loro interno sei elastici di ritenzione, tre per lato, tengono ordinati i piccoli oggetti contenuti.
Doppio sistema di chiusura: con velcro e con una cinghia di regolazione fissata con un fastex, per evitare che il contenuto della tasca balli al suo interno.

On both side we can appreciate the large utility pouch, that can hold several items. Inside them there are six elastic retention, three per side, holding in order small objects inside the pouch.
These pouches have a double closure system: velcro strap and a fastex buckle with adjustment to prevent noises caused by movements of objects inside the pouch.




Nello schienale una tasca a rete permette di alloggiare un sistema di idratazione.

Inside the back panel there is a mesh pocket to carry a hydration system.





La parte posteriore del vest è modulare, permettendo di utilizzare sia la coppia di butt pack fornita assieme al vest che qualsiasi altro butt pack pack o tasca sfruttando le 3 strisce di passanti alice, foderati al loro interno con del feltro per una maggior stabilità delle clip una volta agganciate.
Ogni butt pack di serie si aggancia allo schienale con 4 fastex, uno per angolo, attaccati a cinghie regolabili.
Si tratta di butt pack di medie dimensioni, ma che in coppia offrono una ottima capienza, pari a quella di un piccolo zaino sufficiente ad una operazione 24H.
Ogni butt pack si chiude allo stesso modo delle utility, quindi con velcro abbinato ad una coppia di fastex con cinghie di regolazione per comprimere il contenuto impedendone il movimento al suo interno.

The back plate is modular, allowing you to use the pair of small backpacks supplied with the DOAV or any other butt pack or pouch using the three alice bands, internally lined with felt for greater stability of clips once they are hooked.
These are medium size backpacks, but using both you have a great capability, equal to a small backpack, enough for a 24H operation.
Every backpack has the same closure system of side utility pouches, with Velcro closure and a couple of compression belt with fastex buckles each backpack, to prevent movements of contained objects.

La base del vest è in colorazione olive drab, mentre solo la tasche e i butt pack sono in woodland.
Altri colori disponibili sono il nero, desert tan e olive drab.

Prova
Come anticipato all'inizio della recensione, il vest è di dimensioni molto generose e mal si adatta a corporature esili o anche medie.
Anche regolato al minimo della larghezza e altezza, occorre essere alti almeno 175 cm e portare una taglia 50 di torace per poterlo indossare correttamente.
I larghi pad sulle spalle, limitano i movimenti della braccia se non si un torace sufficientemente largo.
Detto questo, se ne abbiamo le caratteristiche, potremo apprezzarne la comodità unita alla grande capienza.
Per contro, l'ingombro è notevole e muoversi con un simile tattico indosso risulta piuttosto difficoltoso in ambienti con vegetazione fitta, così come sdraiarsi, rotolare, etc.
Le tasche fisse sul frontale non permettono di adattare il vest alle nostre esigenze, ma dovremo fare il contrario, cioè stipare gli oggetti dove il vest lo permette; l'altra parte della medaglia è che le tasche fisse offrono una maggior stabilità rispetto alla modulari.
Non adatto a brevi giocate domenicali, è sicuramente un'ottima scelta in caso di gare brevi (6-8 H) senza butt pack, fino ad arrivare a gare prolungate (24 H) con entrambi i butt pack agganciati.

Test
As writed at the beginning of the review, the DOAV is very generous in dimensions and it can’t suit to slim body, or even medium body.
Also set to the minimum width and height, you must be 175cm tall and wear size 50 (better if higher) to wear it comfortably.
The large shoulder pads make difficult to move arms freely if you don’t have a good chest width.
But if we are able to fit properly the DOAV, we can appreciate comfort and a great capability.
However his generous dimensions make difficult movements in a high vegetation area, as well as lie down, roll, etc.
Fix pouches make not possible to adapt the vest to our needs, but we must put our objects where the DOAV allows us to do it.
On the other hand, fixed pouches offer a greater stability than modular pouches.
Not suitable for Sunday short game, DOAV System is certainly a good choice for short range recon (6-8 H) without any backpack up to long range recon (24 H) using both backpacks.




Esistono in commercio numerose repliche di questo vest, compresi in un range di prezzo che varia dai 70 ai 100 euro.
Occorre però considerare che trattandosi di un vest di vecchia concezione, il prezzo dell'originale ultimamente è calato notevolmente, attestandosi non molto sopra il prezzo pagato per una replica.
