Il Weesatch della High Speed Gear Inc. è un plate carrier (porta piastre balistiche) modulare con mag-pouch incorporate. 
Pur essendo un Plate Carrier, quindi destinato a trasportare piastre antiproiettile, ha trovato ampio spazio nei gusti dei moderni softgunners che non disdegnano il trasportare finte piastre balistiche per “riempirlo”.

The Weesatch by High Speed Gear Inc. is a modular plate carrier with integrate mag-pouches.

Even being a plate carrier, so studied to carry balistic plate, it has found a wide space in the modern airsoft players "taste" which enjoy also to carry fake SAPI replica to fill it.  

 


flags_of_italy.jpg Il Weesatch è la versione dedicata alle corporature medio-piccole, che completa la linea ‘Satch con i “colleghi” Waasatch (più grande, per grosse corporature) e il Woosatch (che non presenta le mag-pouch incorporate). 

Le colorazioni disponibili sono il classico Olive Drab, il Coyote Brown, il nero e il multicam. 

Il plate carrier (in seguito PC) si compone di: 
-una parte anteriore porta-piastra con 6 mag pouch incorporate; 
-una parte posteriore porta-piastra; 
-2 spallacci che uniscono le parti anteriore e posteriore; 
-6 sistemi di ritenzione a velcro-strap per le mag-pouch; 
-2 sistemi di ritenzione a elastico con clip per le mag-pouch.

The Wee at this moment is available in OD, Coyote Brown, black and multicam colours.

The plate carrier (PC in the rest of the review) is composed of:
-front side plate carrier with 6 mag-pouches;
-back side plate carrier;
-2 shoulders to engage the anterior to the back;
-6 velcro retensions for the mag-pouches
-2 elastic retensions with clips for the mag-pouches.

La parte anteriore del PC presenta 6 mag-pouch. 
Ogni mag-pouch delle quattro centrali può contenere comodamente 2 caricatori Colt con mag-pull (o 2 caricatori in 7,62 per la serie G3 che però, essendo più larghi, creano problemi per l’utilizzo di tutte le tasche) mentre le due esterne possono contenere solo 1 caricatore Colt, sempre con mag-pull. 
I sistemi di ritenzione dei caricatori possono essere regolati in altezza grazie al velcro che li àncora all’interno delle tasche stesse. 
Le mag-pouch sono create da un’unica tasca frontale frazionata da divisori interni fissi in Cordura. 
Si nota che, nonostante la grossa dimensione della tasca, questa non è dotata di fori per lo scolo dell’acqua. 
Tutta la parte anteriore della fascia porta caricatori è ricoperta da 3 file di pals. 
Riteniamo che le due mag-pouch esterne possano essere efficacemente adibite a radio-pouch o a pistol mag-pouch, mantenendo comunque un buon carico di fuoco al seguito (8 caricatori Colt).

The front side has 6 mag-pouches.
Each mag-pouch can hold 2 Colt mags with mag-pul extractor (or 2 G3 mags that are larger than the Colt mags so they can't be stored in all the pouches) while the lateral pouches can hold only 1 Colt mag.
The retentions can be adjust in height thank to hook-and-loop inside the pouches.
The pouches are made by one big anterior pouch subdivided by internal Cordura dividers.
You can see that the even if this pouch is very big there are not metal holes for water draining.
All the external side is covered by 3 Pals rows.
We can suggest to use the two lateral pouches as radio-pouch or as a pistol mag-pouch, carring anyway a good load of fire (8 Colt mags).

flags_of_italy.jpg Sopra le mag-pouch sono bloccati, con cuciture di ottima qualità, due grossi fastex ai quali verranno assicurati gli spallacci da 5cm di larghezza.

Sul bordo anteriore sinistro troviamo la cintura lombare che àncora le due parti (anteriore e posteriore) e le assicura in vita (Foto A)
Per questa cintura è previsto un punto fisso di ancoraggio a sinistra (dove è stato cucito) e uno di aggancio/sgancio tramite fastex a destra.

 

Obliquamente e sopra gli ancoraggi della cintura lombare, troviamo due robusti passanti in plastica che permettono di convertire il PC in un Chest-Rig con X-Harness (spallacci incrociati nella regione interscapolare), eliminando così il porta-piastra posteriore (foto B).

Non riteniamo che il Weesatch si esprima al meglio in questa configurazione e inoltre, durante le prove, sono emersi notevoli problemi di tenuta degli spallacci sui passanti con, addirittura, un evento di completo sgancio degli spallacci dal Chest-Rig, dovuto allo scarso grip dei passanti sugli spallacci.

Infine gli spallacci risultano troppo corti per consentire una buona regolazione nella modalità chest-rig su utilizzatori di taglie superiori al small-medium e nuovamente troppo corti per garantire una buona tenuta sui passanti con vari passaggi al loro interno.

On the left frontal border we can find the lumbar belt that engage the front and back side of the Wee and lock it on the waist (pic. A)
This belt has a fix point sewn on the left border and a free flap with a Fastex to engage/disengage the belt itself on the right border.

Obliquely over the belt you can find two sturdy plastic rings you can use to convert teh PC into a Chest Rig with X-harness, removing the back of the PC (pic. B).
We don't think the Wee works best in this configuration and during our tests we have had some grip problems of the shoulder through the plastic rings. We have had also a complete detachment of a shoulder from the Chest Rig, due the very little grip force on the rings.
In the end the shoulders are too short to be well regulated when you use the Wee as a chest rig if you have size bigger than small-medium and too short to be well engaged on the rings passing through double times.

flags_of_italy.jpg La “pettorina” si assicura agli spallacci con due nastri in Cordura con bottoni a pressione. 
Questa rimane in posizione verticale grazie anche alla presenza della finta piastra balistica, ma può anche essere abbattuta dietro le mag-pouch, pena l’impossibilità all'uso della piastra anteriore e della grossa tasca interna verticale (Foto C). 
Sulla pettorina sono presenti 3 file di pals sotto le quali è presente la profonda tasca verticale con chiusura superiore a velcro, dove è possibile riporre mappe e documenti (foto D). 

Durante le nostre prove abbiamo rilevato una certa difficoltà di posizionamento di un’Admin pouch sulla pettorina (nella prova è stata utilizzata un’Admin Pouch della Guarder), questo dovuto all’impossibilità di “centrare” l’Admin pouch e all’eccessiva altezza della tasca, tale da interferire con i sistemi di ritenzione dei caricatori.

This stay in vertical position thank to the SAPI plate (replica) inside but it can be removed folding it behind the mag-pouches. Doing that you will not be able to use the frontal balistic plate and the big vertical internal pouch (pic. C).

On the bib there are 3 Pals rows behind them there's a big vertical pouch, closed by hook-and-look, where you can store maps and documents (pic. D).

During our tests we have had some problems to attach an Admin pouch on the bib (we used a Guarder Admin pouch) because it's impossibile to center the Admin pouch and because it will play havoc with the mag-pouches because too high (even if it's a common Admin pouch).

Il pannello posteriore consiste in una grossa sacca con chiusura a velcro in grado di trasportare piastre di taglia Large, dotata di anelli di scolo dell’acqua. 
Il pannello presenta una robusta cucitura (visibile in foto) che fissa l’altezza alla quale dovrà attestarsi la piastra. 
La porzione inferiore, non occupata dalla piastra, presenta sul lato esterno due file di passanti per la cintura lombare. 
I passanti, essendo posti ad altezze diverse, permettono l’adattatamento del PC alle varie corporature e/o esigenze. 
Il lato esterno del pannello posteriore presenta 6 file di pals per l’aggancio di un hydratation carrier o di un backpack e una spessa maniglia per l’estrazione d’emergenza. 

Durante le nostre prove abbiamo notato che molti “softgunners” utilizzatori di questo PC adibiscono il pannello posteriore a hydratation carrier e non a porta-piastre: questo risulta un grossolano errore in quanto il volume iniziale della sacca d’idratazione costringerà ad una regolazione più abbondante rispetto al necessario e, una volta svuotata la sacca, il PC risulterà troppo largo, scomodo e inefficace.

The back panel is a big pouch closed by hook-and-loop that can carry a Large SAPI plate. It has metal holes for water drainig.

The panel has a big seam in the lower part (you can see in picture) to lock the plate at a desired height.

The part of the back panel ander that seam, has two rows Cordura loops to engage the lumbar belt.

The loops are at two different height to adjust the PC to different body sizes.

The back side of the panel is covered by 6 Pals rows you can use to attach a Hydration Carrier or a backpack and has also a sturdy handle for emergency extraction.

During our tests we have seen many airsoft players using the back panel pouch as an hydration carrier but it is a big error because, if you do that, you will adjust the PC on your body with the hydration bladder full loaded but during the games you will empty it and the PC will be too large for your body size and you will need to re-adjust it.

Il weesatch è sicuramente un prodotto professionale di alto livello, con materiali di ottima qualità (Cordura) e cuciture degne di nota. 
La vestibilità è molto buona, permettendo di essere adattato sia a corporature piccole che a corporature più grandi, queste ultime di sicuro avvantaggiate nel comfort. 
Il sistema di estrazione dei caricatori a velcro-strap è molto veloce ed efficace. 
Riteniamo indispensabili gli spallacci imbottiti della HGSI, venduti separatamente, anche se, a nostro parere, risultano sottodimensionati in lunghezza e inoltre, il sistema a velcro per l’aggancio agli spallacci originali non consente la stabilità richiesta da un equipaggiamento di questo livello. 

Durante i test abbiamo rilevato alcuni problemi di stabilità utilizzando tutte le mag-pouch a pieno carico infatti, una volta estratta la prima fila di caricatori e riposti nella spent-mag pouch, il wee tende ad allargarsi per la perdita della spinta verso il ventre, prodotta dai caricatori stessi. 

Il sovraccaricare la parte anteriore del PC determina sempre lo “scivolamento” verso il basso ventre: situazione che riteniamo molto fastidiosa, in quanto la finta piastra “scendendo” verso il basso, va a creare un continuo sfregamento sull’addome con il suo margine inferiore. 
Come tutti i PC, anche il Weesatch va indossato alto sul petto, cosa non facile quando l’operatore presenti una corporatura molto piccola, quando il Wee sia over-loaded (sovraccaricato) frontalmente oppure quando non sia utilizzata una hydratation carrier che possa equilibrare un aumento di carico anteriore. 
Il produttore stesso ricorda che il Wee nasce per trasportare due piastre balistiche e la sua stabilità è in parte subordinata al loro utilizzo. 
Non è un vest da grosso carico per pattuglie a lungo raggio ma un PC per corte pattuglie o direct action (DA). 

Il Wee deve essere utilizzato in modo “low profile”, difatti nella realtà viene impiegato da operatori con la necessità di scendere rapidamente dai mezzi motorizzati per una pronta risposta o DA, quindi le caratteristiche privileggiate sono: la maneggevolezza, la libertà di movimento concessa, la capacità di trasportare piastre balistiche e la capacità di trasportare molte munizioni piuttosto che grosse quantità di materiale. 

Molte perplessità rimangono sulla sua (in)stablità nell’utilizzo senza piastre balistiche o con settaggi non studiati ad hoc, unica vera quanto gravosa pecca di questo PC per l’utilizzo ludico del softgunner. 
Dopo averlo settato ed equilibrato con cura però, risulta indossabile e utilizzabile sia nel gioco domenicale che in gara (anche per molte ore) a patto di utilizzare le imbottiture per gli spallacci. 

In definitiva si tratta di un ottimo prodotto, sia come fattura e materiali sia, perché no, dal punto di vista estetico.

News:

Durante le ricerche effettuate per la stesura di questa “review”, ci è stato comunicato che a breve sarà commercializzata una nuova versione del Weesatch. Non è dato sapere quali siano le modifiche apportate a questo PC (e se ve ne siano di sostanziali) ma sappiamo per certo che vi sarà il ritorno al sistema Bungee Cord come ritenzione dei caricatori, sistema già presente nelle vecchie versioni al posto degli attuali straps a velcro.

The Weesatch is an high level professional gear with top material and good seams.

The fit is good both for small than big sizes (advantaged in comfort).

The hook-and-loop mags retention system is good and quick.

The shoulder-pads are needful but are buying apart but they're too short and the hook-and-loop retention system doesn't ensure the stability needed by a so high level gear.

 

During our tests we have had some stability problems using the mag-pouches full loaded because, once you pull out the first line of mags and you put them into your spent mags pouch, the PC will be too large on your waist and you will need to re-adjust it.

 

Over-loading the front side will made a sliding down of it: this is very annoying because the SAPI plate lower border will scratch the lower abdom of the operator.

Like all the PC you have to wear te Wee high on your chest but this is not so easy to do if you have a small size, if you over-loaded the PC in front side or if you don't use hydration carrier on the back that could balance the frontal over-loaded weight.

The producer remind that the Wee was born to carry two balistic plates and its stability depends to their use.

The Wee is not a "vest" for big loads for long patrolings but a PC for short patrols or direct actions (DA).

 

The Wee have to be used in "low profile" setting and in real field it's used by operators who need to quickly get off from vehicles for a rapid fire answer (DA), so the favourite features are the maneuverability, ability of quick movements, to can carry balistic plates and the ability of carry a big numbers of magzines.

 

We ha many perplexities about it (non)stability in the use without plates or with not well studied loads: this is the only big problem for the airsoft players use of this gear.

Afetr a good setting and well balanced, you can use it both in sunday games than in long matches but you must use the shoulder pads.

 

In the end we can say it is a good gear, both in production and in materials used and, why not, in aestetic point of view.

During our research to write this review, HSGi told us a new version of Wee will be soon available. We can't to know the new features  but we can say that will be a return to bungee cord mags retention system: a system that was used in the oldest version of Wee.
