2 Pairs Bicycle Disc Brake Pads for Avid BB5 Mechanical Disc Brake (Resin,Semi-Metallic,Sintered Metal)
It’s actually very easy. The last time I paid a bike store to do this it was $94!I resolved to become self-sufficient at this as a result. There are many good, short little YouTube videos on the topic.First, adjust the brake tensioning nuts up by the brake levers almost all the way in.Turn the bike upside down on the handlebars and seat.Loosen and remove the wheel.Loosen the two hex head nuts holding the brake caliper to the bike frame or fork. With a little screwdriver push the silver clip and two used brake pads out towards the disc rotor side of the caliper (the big slot side).Carefully place the new silver spring tension clip between two new brake pads.Lightly compress them and slide them into the large rotor slot side of the brake caliper.Make sure the clip is still engaged in the two little depressions on each of the disc brake pads and seated up in the small opening where the old clip was. This spring is what lightly retracts the disc brake pads away from the rotor while you are riding. As you lightly squeeze the brake handle so that the pads pinch the rotor, tighten the two bolts holding the caliper to the front fork or the rear frame. This seats the disc brake caliper exactly where it needs to be so that the pads pinch evenly on the rotor.Stand the bike upright, tighten the brake tensioning nuts up by the brake handle so that the pads pinch on the rotor, restricting wheel movement and then back them off just a little to where you don’t hear the rotor rubbing on the new disc pads. You are done. You are liberated from the bike mechanic for disc brake pad replacement!Every so often when you notice that your brakes are not stopping you so easily, adjust the wheel on the spoke side of the caliper a couple clicks clockwise to bring the inside brake pad closer to the rotor because it has lightly worn down with usage.
