100 Campagnolo Shimano Front Hubs 3/16″ Bicycle Loose Bearing Balls
The 3/16 inch chrome steel Bicycle Ball Bearings, 100 by BC Precision Store came today. I have 3 bikes, and have done so much similar work the last few days on them, I cannot remember which bike, how many and which wheel these went on. I want to say they went on the back wheel of my 1999 Specialized Hard Rock Comp bike, but I may be confusing that with the bearings I did on my Genesis Villotti. Either way, I first extracted the old bearings with a magnet on a pole, measured the size with a digital caliper tool, cleaned the bearing races, put new axle grease in, placed the correct # of bearings, then adjusted the cone and lock nut so that the wheel wasn’t binding – spun freely IN MY HANDS, but had only the very slightest side to side movement. After installation of the wheel and Quick Release Skewer, I again made sure the wheel wasn’t too tight or loose. I was doubting my ability to do this right, and had to do this 3 times until it was right. So, be patient, have plenty of light, and look over your work once it’s back together. A bearing too tight can wear fast, and too loose can allow it to turn fast, but leave a wobbly wheel.
