The hot knife slices through styrofoam with no effort, and needs a steady hand holding it. It is small and easy to hold. It heats up quickly. The blade is about the size of a standard ice pick, but not round. The knife can be inserted and begin cutting in the center of a piece of styrofoam. The cord has a transformer at the end, that plugs in, and the cord is about two and one half feet long. There are fumes that are produced, but the jobs go quickly. I had a collection of many pieces of styrofoam, and was able to build what I needed, hot glue the pieces together, and paint. The knives arrived much sooner than stated, and there is a note explaining that it is recommended to use one for about thirty minutes, then switch to the other one. This is a great find!
